Lunney has coached Illinois QB Luke Altmyer to be the most improved quarterback in college football, going from 13 TD/10 INT last season to an 18 TD/3 INT radio this season, which ranks as the best TD/INT ratio in the Big Ten and second-best in Power 4 behind only Clemson's Cade Klubnik (26/4) (min. 10 TDs). Altmyer is currently fourth in the Big Ten in passing touchdowns (14) and his 144.6 passing efficiency would be second-best in a single season in Illinois football history. Lunney has engineered an offense to connect Altmyer with his favorite target, WR Pat Bryant. Bryant ranks fifth in the Big Ten in receiving yards (717) and third in touchdown receptions (8). Led by Lunney's offense, Illinois is currently 7-3 and has been in the AP Top 25 for eight straight weeks. The Illini's eight AP poll appearances are the program's most since 2001.
