“I think Coach Shaw is a special coach,” head coach Greg Schiano said. “I think he has everything you need. He's got great relationship skills, he's got great X's and O's, great technique, passion for the game. I think he's got a bright future.” In his second season as the Scarlet Knights’ running backs coach, Shaw has elevated the position and offensive unit. RB Kyle Monangai led the Big Ten with 1,262 rushing yards in 2023 and has followed that up with another 1,000-yard season to become the fourth player in program history to achieve the feat multiple times. Monangai enters game 11 needing 145 yards to move into second on the school’s all-time career leaderboard. He has zero career fumbles. Monangai had just two Power 5 offers out of high school and has developed into one of the top running backs nationally. In a game Monangai missed due to injury, freshman Antwan Raymond and sophomore Ja’Shon Benjamin stepped in to combine for 139 rushing yards in a win over Minnesota. After rushing for 128.2 yards per game the season before taking over the position, Rutgers jumped to 168.7 in 2023 and is up to 169.4 through 10 games in 2024.
