Why should this nominee be considered for the Broyles Award?
Bloesch has moved into a new role as quarterbacks coach and quickly elevated the level of the North Texas offense. Under his leadership, the Mean Green have a balanced, explosive attack that ranks among the best in the country and tops in CUSA.
Coach's Past Performance
In 2021, Bloesch directed one of the nation’s leading rushing attacks and mentored one of the best offensive line units in the country. The Mean Green finished the season ranked No. 5 nationally in rushing offense (234.1 ypg) as DeAndre Torrey rushed for 1,215 yards on the year, the seventh-best single season total in UNT history. Behind an offensive line that allowed only 15 sacks, the eighth-fewest in FBS, the Mean Green rushed for 32 touchdowns on the season. That total is the second most for a UNT team and the most since 1951’s program record 33. Bloesch served as a co-offensive coordinator and offensive line coach in 2020, his first season in Denton, helping guide the Mean Green to the eighth-ranked total offense in the nation in 2020, averaging 513.2 yards per game, and averaged 6.59 yards per play (22nd-best in FBS). Bloesch, while leading a major turnaround along the offensive line, helped guide the Mean Green to 34.4 points per game, which ranked 23rd in the country. UNT’s passing attack ranked 25th in the country at 283.0 yards per game, and the rushing attack ranked 13th nationally at 230.2 yards per game. Senior wide receiver Jaelon Darden had an All-America season, earning honors from every major outlet/awards group at either first or second team levels. Darden caught 74 passes for 1,190 yards and 19 touchdowns in just nine games, and was named the Conference USA Most Valuable Player.
Team Record and Standings
UNT has won 10 of its last 11 Conference USA games and currently stands in second place overall. The Mean Green earned its sixth win on Saturday against FIU and will play in a bowl game for the sixth time in seven years, a program record.
Team/Unit Stats
Bloesch has led the North Texas offense to one of the most explosive seasons in program history … The Mean Green lead CUSA and rank sixth nationally in total offense (503.8) along with ranking 14th nationally in rushing (218.6), 24th in passing (285.2). UNT also leads CUSA and ranks 17th nationally in scoring (37.2). The North Texas offense ranks eighth nationally in yards per play (7.13) and is the only Group of Five school in the top 12.
Individual Player Stats
 In his first year coaching quarterbacks, Bloesch has mentored UNT’s Austin Aune who is having one of the best seasons in program history. Aune leads the nation in yards per completion (16.19). Aune is also third with 28 passing TD and 12th in passing efficiency (163.2). The junior is on track to set new UNT season records for passing TD, yards per completion and TD responsibility.
