Why should this nominee be considered for the Broyles Award?
Has revamped the Syracuse rushing attack. They are currently 3rd in the country in rushing offense, have the 2nd leading rusher in the nation, 5th in the country in yards per carry. Syracuse won 1 game in 2020 and currently sits at 5-4 with 3 games to play, one more win and they will be a bowl team in 2021. Much of the offensive success this season can be credited to their improved offensive line play.
Coach's Past Performance
Coach Schmidt has routinely led one of the premier rushing attacks in the nation during his time at San Diego State. In 2016 they were the first team in history to have a 2,000 yard rusher and 1,000 yard rusher in the same backfield. Was a Joe Moore Award Finalist in 2016. During his time at SDSU his offensive line paved the way for the all time leading rusher in NCAA history, Donnel Pumphrey. They were also the first team in NCAA history to have 2 different 2,000 yard rushers in back to back seasons (2016-Pumphrey, 2017-Rashaad Penny).
