Coach Doege joined Marshall's coaching staff in December 2023 and has helped the Herd transition to the Air Raid offense, continuing the legacy of the late Mike Leach, whom he played for at Texas Tech. While Doege has kept with the foundation of Leach's Air Raid system, he has also put his own spin on it, which has proven beneficial in Huntington this season. Marshall is achieving terrific efficiency within the pass game (21 TDs, 4 INTs by QBs) while also maintaining exceptional balance with the QBs reading successfully and taking what the defense is giving, which has also helped the Herd rushing attack to be No. 20 in FBS at 200.5 yards per game on the ground. Despite having a pair of transfer QBs - one of whom did not arrive in Huntington until June - Marshall QBs have successfully employed Doege's system and the Herd is 7-3 overall, winners of four straight games and in 1st place in the Sun Belt East Division.
