Why should this nominee be considered for the Broyles Award?

Missouri football would like to nominate Assistant Coach
Kevin Peoples for the 2023 Broyles Award. Peoples is the Defensive Ends coach
for Mizzou, and has brought along a group of pass rushers this year that saw
the two starters from 2022 graduate and move to the NFL, while losing four of
their top five ends from the 2022 squad. In 2023, Peoples unit has accounted
for 15 of the team’s 27 sacks. As a team, Missouri ranks fifth in the SEC in
sacks, with senior Darius Robinson tied for sixth in the league in sacks. Led
by the defensive ends, Missouri’s defense ranks 16th in the nation
in sacks.

In 2022, Peoples coached all-SEC defensive ends Isaiah
McGuire and DJ Coleman to a combined 13 sacks. McGuire is currently with the
Cleveland Browns, while Coleman is with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Peoples has
integrated five new defensive ends during the 2023 season and seen the unit produce
at a high level, helping lead to Missouri’s top 25 national ranking as a team.
Peoples has also been extremely active from a recruiting standpoint, with his
work solidifying a commitment from the nation’s number one high school prospect
by several recruiting services, as well as two other highly sought after prep
defensive ends.
