Banks is the defensive coordinator of a Tennessee defense that ranks second in the SEC and top 10 in the nation in both sacks and tackles for loss. The Vols average 3.30 sacks per game, which is seventh in the FBS, and they post 8.2 TFLs per game, which is fourth in the FBS. Banks’ unit ranks fourth in the SEC and 24th in the nation in rush defense, allowing only 113.1 yards per game. They have held six opponents to under 100 yards rushing, the most in a season since the 2005 team did it nine times. Banks’ unit is also tied for the SEC and national lead in defensive touchdowns with four. The Vols give up 4.99 yards per play, which is fourth in the SEC and 25th in the nation. Banks’ defense held Texas A&M (-90.8), Alabama (-10.4) and Kentucky (-83.4) significantly below their rushing offense averages for the season. His unit has helped guide the Vols to a 7-3 record and a current No. 19 ranking in the Coaches Poll.
